  1. Emancipation Proclamation Celebration
    Date: Monday, January 1
    Time/Place: Noon at the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 5191 Hoover Avenue
    Speaker: Judge Wendell Griffen
                   Arkansas Court of Appeals 
  2. The MLK Memorial Worship Service
    Date: Sunday, January 7
    Time/Place: 3:30 p.m.
                       St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 519 Liscum at 35 West 
  3. Youth Activities
    Kick-off

    Place/Times: Bomberger Teen Center, 1306 E. Fifth Street
                        Noon - 3:00 p.m.: Recreational Activities 
                        7:00 - 11:00 p.m.: Dance $5.00 (benefits SCLC Youth Programs)

    Date/Time: Friday, January 12,  7:00 p.m.
    Place: Smith Auditorium in Bldg. 12 at Sinclair Community College

  6. The MLK Musical
    Date/Time: Sunday, January14, 6:30 p.m.,
    Place: Fairhaven Church, 637 E. Whipp Rd. Centerville
  7. The MLK Memorial March and Rally
    Date/Time: Monday, January 15, Monday. 
    Marchers will leave from EAST, WEST, NORTH and SOUTH
            
    with the rally at the Courthouse Square will be held arounf noon.   
    EAST: Marchers will begin walking at 10:45 a.m. from Laborer's Local Union Hall 1410
              2228 East MLK Jr. Way 10:45 a.m.
    WEST: Marchers will begin walking at 10:30 a.m. from SCLC Headquarters
              2132 W. MLK, Jr. Way (Third St.) 
    NORTH:  Marchers will begin walking at 11:00 a.m. from the Memorial Baptist Church 
               1222 N. Main Street 11:00 a.m.
    SOUTH: Marchers will begin walking at 11:00 a.m. from the Montgomery County Fairground 
               1943 S. Main Street 11:00 a.m.

    Around noon after the March and Rally at the Courthouse, please join A Taste of Dialogue that is arranged by the Dayton Dialogue on Race Relations and is held with a free lunch at the Schuster Performing Arts Center. Tickets are necessary, but free to obtain: See the note below or get its flyer as a Word file

  8. The MLK Presidential Banquet ($50.00 Ticket)
    Date/Time: Monday January 15, 6:30 p.m.
    Time/Place: Mandalay Banquet Center
                       2700 E. River Road
    Speaker: Dr. Johnetta Cole, President, Bennett College

Note 1: Buses and vans that accompany each quad should follow the marchers and park as follow.

  • East - park on E. Third Street between Main and Jefferson, AFTER the marchers are in place at 3rd and Main;
  • South - park on S. Main street between Third and Fourth streets, AFTER the marchers are in place at 3rd and Main;
  • North - park on N. Main street between Second and Third Streets, AFTER the marchers are in place at 3rd and Main;
  • West - Units will be directed to parking on Ludlow between Second and Fourth streets.

Note 3: Tickets are necessary to participate and may be secured from the following locations between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm for January 8-12; or obtained on the Holiday from quad leaders at the four starting locations and DDRR representatives at the March/Rally.  Two locations to secure tickets:
