President's Spotlight - 2008

January 2, 2008

Goal: Inform, Educate, Empower

Dear NAACP Members, Constituents, Church and Community Leaders,

The Dayton Unit of the NAACP would like to publicly share with the citizens of our great community the successes we attained in the year of 2007 with assistance from dedicated, faithful, supportive and community-minded people like yourselves who want to pursue justice and equality for all Americans.

First giving Honor and Praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the head of my life, because without him, we could do nothing. I want to take this opportunity to personally thank each one of you for the significant contributions you made to the success of our administration in 2007. We set very aggressive, innovative and strategic goals in 2007 which were to better
INFORM the community on what the Dayton Unit NAACP was doing; Proactively EDUCATE the community on issues that affect all Americans; Ultimately EMPOWER more of us to become Entrepreneurs, Educators, Community Leaders and Corporate Leaders. We had an enormously prosperous year filled with Monthly Community Meetings, Quarterly Seminars, Quarterly Workshops, Diversity Training, Civil Rights Advocacy, Youth Achievements, Voter Registration Output, Training & Development, Membership Drive Challenge, Legislative Initiatives, New Sponsors & Relationship's Developed, Freedom Fund Success, Leadership Accountability and a host of distinguished guest speakers. The Standing Committee chairs did an outstanding job facilitating the Monthly Community Meetings, Quarterly Seminars and Workshops. Great job!!! We have a lot to be proud of as it relates to the impact we have made on the citizens of the Greater Dayton  Metropolitan area by Informing, Educating and Empowering them to make better decisions in their daily journey that we call life. I look forward to other committee chairs stepping-up and taking the lead to achieve these types of positive results in 2008. You can do it!!!

As the 2007 Year In Review Report will reflect, we have made significant and substantial progress on the goals we have set however, I do not take credit for this achievement. It is the overall foundation of the NAACP which embodies hardworking, loyal and committed people such as the officers, executive committee members, members, office staff and volunteers of the Dayton Unit NAACP. Our Corporate, Church and Community Supporters as well as our Business Partners and friends have been very instrumental in the financial stability of our organization. We truly appreciate the
TEAMWORK from all involved, as it is the key to success.

Throughout the first year of my presidency, the vision of the Dayton Unit NAACP has remained constant:
The Dayton Unit NAACP vision is to fulfill the Dream of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by capitalizing on the 2nd 'A' of the NAACP which stands for ADVANCEMENT. This is a powerful statement as we know our forefathers and foremothers fought the good fight for freedom and justice so others who came behind them could have a better tomorrow.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Blessed, Safe, Prosperous and Happy New Year. I'm quite sure that if you keep God first, you will receive the desires of your heart. We will continually strive to be
Great in 2008 with God being our guiding light.

Your community servant,

Derrick L. Foward, M.C.E.

President
Dayton Unit of the NAACP
